AI visibility

What an AI-ready website really means

A practical definition for business owners, without invented shortcuts or promises that no agency can responsibly make.

An AI-ready website is not a separate kind of website. It is a clear, technically sound, evidence-rich website that can be understood by people, search engines, and AI-assisted discovery tools.

Google’s own guidance says there are no extra technical requirements, special schema types, or new machine files needed to appear in its AI features. The familiar foundations still matter.

The five useful foundations

1. Clear ownership

Your business should control the domain, source code, analytics, search accounts, and publishing access. This reduces platform risk and makes future improvement easier.

2. Reliable technical access

Important pages need to load quickly, work on mobile, use stable URLs, and remain available to the crawlers you want to serve. Redirects, canonical links, sitemaps, forms, and error pages all need routine care.

3. Direct answers

Service pages should explain what you do, who it is for, how the process works, what influences price, and why your claims are credible. Vague promotional copy gives both customers and machines very little to work with.

4. Structured meaning

Good headings, internal links, descriptive page titles, useful metadata, and accurate structured data make the website easier to interpret. Structured data should describe visible facts, not invent new ones.

5. Fresh evidence

Case studies, project examples, useful articles, reviews, qualifications, and clear company information help demonstrate that the business is real and active.

What AI-ready does not mean

It does not mean adding an llms.txt file and waiting for rankings. It does not mean flooding the site with generic AI-written articles. It also does not mean paying for a guaranteed placement in an AI answer.

No responsible provider can guarantee that a search engine or AI system will cite, rank, or recommend a specific business.

The better operating model

Treat AI visibility as a monthly operating discipline:

  1. Keep the technical foundation healthy.
  2. Improve pages around real customer decisions.
  3. Publish useful evidence and answers.
  4. distribute those ideas across relevant social channels.
  5. Measure visibility, engagement, and enquiries.

That is less glamorous than a secret hack. It is also much more durable.
